Latest Article: Managing Innovation Leaving Before The Party Is Over

Innovation is constantly coming up with new ideas, implementing them, protect them once growing, and than comes the hardest part. Leaving them.

“Partir, c’est mourir un peu” (help me, who said that?) If that is true and literary expressions tend to be true often, what does that mean for innovations?

In Holland there was a comic duo –- for those who know them will say, yes “van Kooten & de Bie” who were real innovators. They invented new characters one after another. And although not every character was as successful as another, they “killed” even the most popular character were they could easily have them stayed alive for a few more episodes. Innovation must have been their policy.

In contrast, think of how many years have you watched Friends (me too). Was it ten, or more? Their policy –- conserve success.

Most people hate innovations and they are right, it is tedious and tiring to focus on new topics and leaving the old – which you had enjoyed so much as it was.

This is a dilemma every company, any business is struggling with. If you leave your success too soon you are throwing money away. If you wait too long others come up with the new and spicy and your business is over before you could even tell.

Do you recognize this situation? You have just subscribed yourself to a new feature, the next moment you watch television and you find out that the same -- plus an extra innovation is offered for less. It is the same dilemma but from a buyers view.

I have no solution for this dilemma. At least, not in this article.

Latest Article: New Metal Pretreatment Technology From Henkel Helps Ford

The partnership between the Ford Motor Company and Henkel Corporation led to the development of the first production vehicle that did not undergo the usual coating process. The new production vehicle did go through a non-phosphate Bonderite conversion coating process which is a new technology developed by Henkel Corporation.

The use of the said technology resulted to lowered production costs and made the vehicle assembly paint pretreatment operations more efficient. The process is also environment friendly because of lower amount of harmful gases released during the manufacturing process. The innovation shows the way for a cleaner pretreatment of metals that are not only employed by the automotive industry but other sectors as well.

Michael Vandelinder, the chief engineer for the Ford Motor Company Paint Engineering team, stated that the new treatment is a great help to Ford in terms of innovation. He says, “This new pretreatment technology from Henkel helps Ford lead the industry in innovation while reducing operating costs and minimizing the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes.” Vandelinder also added that they will “continue to develop, validate, and launch materials and processes that deliver value to our customers through technology.” The statement issued is based on the fact that the Bonderite coating process in addition to reducing waste also reduces volatile organics compounds and carbon dioxide emission during the process of manufacturing.

On the part of Henkel Corporation, Dan Wohletz, the vice president for automotive in North America has this to say: “This innovation is a result of Henkel’s commitment to deliver revolutionary technologies to valued customers like Ford.” The vice president further added that “this is another example of a Henkel innovation that enhances our leadership in the metal pretreatment industry.”

Indeed, the innovation has reaffirmed the corporation at the top of its class. With continued dedication to the improvement of their currently used technology, the company will surely raise the bar for excellence in their field time and time again. As of now, it looks as if the company has no intention to slow down in their efforts with the development of better processes and products.

Henkel is the largest company when it comes to adhesives, sealants and surface treatments servicing the automotive industry. The company is known for their extensive background in the industry just like EBC pads are known for being of high quality and superior stopping power. They offer a complete lineup of solutions to the entire process of automobile development. The company boasts of an expertise in metal pretreatment on all areas of the manufacturing process of a car like the automotive body, interior, chassis, electronics, and powertrain. Henkel also offers a wide variety of brands that are of great help in the automotive industry. Brands such as Loctite, Teroson, Autophoretic, Frekote, Multan, and Bonderite are under the Henkel Corporation.

The company also uses the serves other industry apart from the automotive sector. Henkel also has vested interest on electronics, aerospace, metal, durable goods, consumer goods, maintenance and repair, and packaging industries.

The partnership between the two companies will surely not stop with the development of the non-phosphate Bonderite conversion coating process. Continued development in this field will greatly reduce or even eliminate the amount of greenhouse gases produced during the manufacturing process of a car. While the development of the new technology will be of great help in protecting the environment, that innovation alone cannot entirely save the deterioration of the environment due to harmful gasses. More environmentally friendly processes must be developed in order to significantly reduce the amount of hazardous gases being released into the atmosphere.

Latest Article: The Fastest Growing Company In The World Part 2 What Is The S Word?

So you want to have the fastest growing company in the world. Any one coach or entrepreneur can tell you it takes teamwork, time management, organizational, innovation and task-driven skills.

Almost always right, but what does it take to make a great company in the world today? Is it technology, partly; innovation, partly; but not completely.

What makes the best companies rise to the top? What makes a company go from $0-$1,000,000 in 1 year. What makes a company go from $0-$1,000,000,000 in 1 year? Gee I just want to get to $100,000 the start-up entrepreneur says. How do I get there? How can I expand? This will take a lot of time! I don't have the capital! Never done this before! Ok, so it's not like a baby being born can run a short sprint. But over time depending on the resources, influence and training...how about a little jog, a little success perhaps. No success is not the S-WORD.

However, the answer is the S word. The S word changes everything, but you have to create the S. S takes time, collaboration, constant, collective, communication at all levels. However S takes more than this, it takes exectuable action. S is something like the atmosphere, it is made up of a bunch of things, energy, some positive, some negative, molecules, tiny particles.

The best and most successful businesses have systems in place. NO, SYSTEMS IS NOT THE S WORD.

Everyone has systems, effective systems are better but what are effective systems?

What creates culture? Every heard of someone who started a small business or their dad started a small business years ago. Used to have an idea to start something, told a few friends and started selling more things. How did he do this? Not by himself!

Ever heard of this story in the car rental industry? How about the furniture business? Home theatre systems and electronics business? Easily created?@#, but easily duplicated by others, no, yes, maybe?

So what is it? What is the S word?

Very few entrepreneurs have the S word.

Does the S WORD have to do with innovation in new frontiers, railroad, energy, transportation, software revolution.

Yes, partly but the S WORD has more to it than innovation and technology. The S WORD is not something that can be developed too easily, or too quickly.

The S WORD works in every industry, in every country in every product or service.

However not many people strive to achieve the S WORD. Some have heard about it, others try to imitate, but not many consistently continue to do it.
