Latest Article: BMW Unsure of Renault’s Threat

BMW Sauber has had a firm hold at the third spot in the constructors’ championship standing at the ongoing Formula One season. During the past four races though, fourth place and defending constructors’ champion Renault has performed better and has claimed to take the third spot from BMW and eventually catch up with Ferrari and McLaren.

Although BMW Sauber’s tandem of Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica finished better than Renault’s Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen, the team is still unsure whether Renault is a strong threat to their third place position.

Going into the British Grand Prix, BMW Sauber has 48 points to its credit while Renault is 20 points behind. BMW Sauber is now being considered as the best of the rest as McLaren and Ferrari are dominating every race of the season so far with the exception of the Canadian Grand Prix.

BMW Sauber posted their first podium finish of the season with Heidfeld finishing second. Williams’ Alex Wurz also managed to take a podium finish at that race. So far, that was the only race that any driver from a team other than McLaren and Ferrari finished in the top three.

Mario Theissen, BMW Sauber’s team boss has this to say about Renault’s statements saying that overtaking BMW is their target. “I heard about Renault's improvements in the press, but I am not sure if they were on the track as well. They were certainly close (to us) in terms of time in Magny-Cours, but then you have to see the time gaps are generally close in Magny-Cours.”

Meanwhile, BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld had a trouble free practice session Friday. The duo though is not pleased with the setup of their cars which are of course sourced from BMW with components as reliable as BMW 325i parts.

“I would say it was quite an easy day. There is a little bit of set-up work to be done for tomorrow for free practice and qualifying, so we have to analyze today’s data, but we had no problems so it was quite good,” said Kubica.

“Although I missed the test on the second lap my times were already good, so this was not a big issue. Maybe I could have prepared for my race set-up a little better if I had run in the last test session here, because the track has changed quite a lot and is now bumpier. Now we have to just look at the data and work on that.”

Heidfeld, on the other hand, has this to say: “In the first session and at the beginning of the second one everything went well. Later my car was not so good, although we didn’t change much. It was difficult to drive, so we have to figure out why. Even over the bumps here in Silverstone I don’t have any problems even with my back.”

Whether the French team Renault can overtake the German-Swiss team is still a big question. With Renault’s performance getting better after a not so good start, BMW may contend with Renault in a hard fought battle before the season is done. Meanwhile, rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton gave British fans something to cheer about as he set the fastest lap time in the morning practice session Friday.

Latest Article: 'Mirona' Adds Flavor to BMW Conference Hall

Inside Munich’s Olympiapark is the four-cylinder” building which has helped create public awareness of BMW for many years now. This is where the BMW Group gets all the ideas in the more than 150 countries it operates in. Therefore, this is also were BMW 325i parts are being conceptualized.

Just in time for the Olympic Games in 1972, Karl Schwanzer, an architecture professor from Vienna, completed the building. It consists of more or less four 100 meter high cylinders that are positioned crosswise. It was subjected to complete renovation and modernization measures from 2004 to 2006. The reinventions were supervised by the Hamburg based architectural firm ASP Schweger Assoziierte Gesamtplanung GmbH.

The decision was also aimed at redesigning the conference rooms. Plans required installing many huge format TV monitors in one of the rooms, without allowing them to become distracting to the persons having conferences. So in order to suffice the needs of this challenge, a total of 40 square meters of the specialized glass “Mirona” from SCHOTT were mounted onto the front side of the tables. This surface serves as a mirror, for as long as the monitor behind the pane is turned off. But once the monitor is turned on, the glass provides a crystal clear view of the screen.

This effect is attained through the help of an extremely thin, burned in titanium oxide coating. The unique way in which light is refracted with reflection and transmission also played a very important role. The optical interference coated mineral glass serves as a mirror, giving a silvery, esthetic brilliance in front of a dark surface. But suddenly becomes transparent in front of a light background or backlighting.

Günter Bauer, the Managing Director of Bauer innovativ GmbH in Altötting, Germany, said Mirona is truly something very special as regards its lighting performance, color and processing capabilities. He added that the ability of this glass to appear transparent on the one hand, though it serves as a reflective surface on the other, enabled them to incorporate the monitors into the conference room in a more temperate manner. Bauer’s company was the one responsible for the construction of the tables for use in the conference room.

SCHOTT product manager Stephan Pfaff explained that the functional metamorphosis from glass to a mirror offers huge potential for premium quality applications, specifically interior decorators, designers and shop fitters. He further explained that lighting fixtures, partitions or basic mirrored wall paneling can be turned into elegant design objects at a press of a button with the help of Mirona.

Latest Article: BMW and Acura Engines – Smartest Way to Drive Your Dream Car
Who would have thought that there would come a day where people would invest in a used engine rather than buying a new one or even a new car? Well, it has come to past in which one can call it to be a revolution of sort in the automotive industry. It’s quite simple to understand- used engines are more economical than purchasing and installing new engines.

Now if you might be wondering why on earth would people be investing in used engines regardless of the benefits it might have, let us just establish a few points here! Used engines do not mean that they are dilapidated and worthless. Indeed, many used engines are from used cars that for some reason or another are no longer able to be used but the engine life is still intact and as such, they sell these for a profit but class them as ‘used’! Yes, sounds too good to be true? Well, feast your eyes on this classic example.

Let’s examine the costs of a used BMW engine and a used Acura engine with the costs of purchasing new, unused ones. Firstly, let’s look at BMW engines! Once the BMW engine is removed from the vehicles, it is compression tested and leak-down checked to verify factory BMW specifications. Next it is checked for the correct oil pressure, oil leaks and abnormal noises while in use. Once these tests are passed with flying colors, it is then ready for resale. A 2003 BMW M3 3.2 Litre Engine will run you approximately $9500 which includes numerous specifications and benefits, while let’s face it, buying a new 2003 BMW engine means purchasing a new 2003 BMW M3 car which would cost approximately $19,000! Need I say more? If you are still not convinced, examine the cost of a 2006 BMW 325i engine as opposed to a new 2006 BMW 325i! The latter would cost $23,000 while the used engine would only be a noteworthy $5499! Now, I know I have your attention!

Additionally, let’s look at what I term the BMW’s Japanese sister, the Acura! Used Acura engines are quality merchandise in which you are assured at least one year warranty on each engine, which of course is only from the remarkable dealers and other sellers worth mentioning. If you are looking to buy a used 2006 Acura Engine (TL), that will only cost you $19000, a 1998 used Acura engine (CL) a measly $500 and a 1999 one for only $100 more! By now you should get the gist of what is being purported and as such, you can comprehend that these prices quoted run reasonably much lower than buying a new Acura engine or better yet a car!

All things considered, it must be noted that in this day and age, investing in a used engine is a great way to save towards other vehicular expenses such as high toll tax, gasoline and insurance costs. Moreover, with the fact that an engine goes through its period of depreciation in the initial stages of its life span, purchasing a used engine that is a few years old would mean minimal maintenance costs.

About US: So whether you have the need to buy an Acura engine or a BMW engine or another other engine for that matter, just remember that it’s always cheaper purchasing a used engine than buying a new one if you can even find one as well as a new car! Think economics! Think world crisis! Now is the time to be saving more!
