Latest Article: Types of Industrial Drums’ Moving Equipment
Stainless steel drums have important uses in almost all industries. But, you need to have specialized drum handling equipment to move these drums from one place to another. There are different types of lifting equipment, but cradles, carries, dollies, dumpers and carriers are the most common.

Here's a brief synopsis about some of the steel drums’ handling equipment used in industries:

Racks, cradle systems and drum pallets are used for storage of drums.

The drum dollies are made to retain the round shape of the drums. There are some modifications in the design of dollies, such as a few of them are round or they are oval carts that are supposed to be pulled by a handle. The drum is made to rest on the dolly in an upright position. A drum cradle is similar to drum dollies and looks like a wheelbarrow without a bucket. The drum will sit horizontally on the cradle and will then be lifted and pushed by handles. If you want to pour from the drum while pushing it, a drum cradle is the best piece of equipment.

A drum lifter and drum carries come in different designs for meeting the specific needs of the user. The simple lifter has a clamp that hooks on the top or sides of the drum and is then lifted with a hoist or forklift. Some lifters are designed to be specifically used with a forklift. One of the lifters works like a clamp, so that when the forklift places the drum between the lifter clamps, they get a hold on the drum to be moved. Another type of lifter grabs the top of the lid of the drum and supports it at the bottom so that the drum is kept upright. There are some drum lifters that are designed to carry out the entire task of moving and dumping independently.

A drum dumper is one more type of lifting equipment that can be a mobile or a stationary unit. It is used by placing the drum in the “U”-shaped chute. There is a hand control pendant on the equipment that is used by the operator to lift the dumper and tilt the drum. When the content is lifted and tilted, it flows down the chute into the receptacle.

There are drum racks, cradle systems and pallets for storage of drums. A drum rack is a metal frame that has a curved shape to easily accommodate the drum horizontally. This rack can be mobile or a stationary unit. A drum cradle is meant for that user who wants to store drums, as well as use its content during storage. It can hold 2-4 drums at a time and has options like snap-on trays, etc. The drum pallets can come in various styles starting from a simple plastic tray to the models with spill containment capabilities. These can hold 1-4 drums.

When you are buying drum handling equipment, you need to consider the type of drum that you will be using, its construction, and how often the equipment will be used. All these factors will help you in making the right buying decision.
