What do awards and recognition do to vehicles and vehicle brands?
Well, these awards do not just gather dust in the shelf or cabinet of these vehicle manufacturers. Such means of recognition actually do serve as a good way of telling the vehicle manufacturers that they did a great job with the awarded vehicle or vehicle product like perhaps those parts for Land Rover Freelander. Aside from this, awards and various means of recognition also do tell consumers just what they can expect out of the vehicles.
For the Land Rover brand, they have just yet added another award to their growing number of awards, recognition, and accolades. And with this new award, Land Rover can sure expect quite a number of consumers clamoring for one of their much coveted vehicle units.
The Land Rover Freelander 2 actually soared and whooshed its way so as to be able to take on the lead as the recipient of the SUV of the Year award. This award is actually given out by the BBC Top Gear magazine and is actually part of the magazine’s annual celebrations where awards are given out. Jeremy Clarkson hosted this year's event.
Despite being still new to the auto industry and the auto market, the Land Rover Freelander 2 has proven that it can be just as good (and even better) as those already grounded vehicles. If you do think about it, the vehicle has just been in the industry for just a short period of time. Imagine, the Land Rover Freelander 2 became public knowledge just earlier this year at the British International Motor Show which was held in London.
“We took the Freelander 2 to India for our awards photo shoot, and it was driven from Mumbai to Goa and back again in four days. It performed faultlessly, carrying the Top Gear team and a pile of photographic equipment through 2000 km of the busiest, roughest, and most dangerous roads on Earth,” says Michael Harvey, the editor of Top Gear magazine. Harvey even does add, “If you need to go on a road trip with a load of baggage and people, and want to do it comfortably, safely and in style, then in the compact SUV sector, the Freelander 2 is the only choice.”

Curtis Manning of CTU was one hell of a patriot, but that ended up being his downfall. Curtis was a loyal member of CTU and a loyal friend of Jack Bauer, but it was his friend Jack Bauer who had to murder him for the greater good earlier in this season. This was an unfortunate blow for 24 fans who had come to love Curtis Manning as a character, and also was a blow to the actor who played Curtis Manning, Roger Cross.
Roger Cross sat down for an exclusive interview with Roger Cross recently, and Mr. Cross seems like an all-around genial fellow. He started his career in life as a commercial pilot, but ended up in Hollywood as a stunt man. Born in Jamaica, Cross spent his first 11 years of life there before emigrating to North America for good with his parents. It became clear to him that his path was going to end up in the acting realm and so he pursued it fully.
He got his role on 24 and, although it was originally slated to only be a 6 episode arc for the Curtis character, the show ended up keeping him for full two seasons and the beginning of this last one. His death had nothing to do with how the show felt about him, but just was meant to give Jack Bauer more torment, as if he needed any more. Roger Cross will continue to act in Hollywood, although he doesn’t know where he’ll end up next. Wherever it is, we’ll be watching.

One of the most eagerly anticipated films in the past several years, The Dark Knight just may be the huge money-maker that Warner Bros. Pictures hopes it will be. With an intriguing plot and a stellar cast, this Batman movie may just be the best in the series yet. At least that’s how the fans see it. Online movie forums are filled with people who are quite excited about this movie. Some are comic book fans who are interested simply because this is a Batman movie. But many others are looking forward to this film for other reasons. As mentioned above, The Dark Knight has a highly-talented cast. Batman is played by Christian Bale, who also played the role in Batman Begins. Bale was the seventh actor to play the character of Batman in a live-action film and the only non-American actor to have the role of Batman. The other lead character in The Dark Knight is the Joker. Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker. Unlike Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the Joker in 1989’s Batman—in which the Joker was a bad guy, but he was also rather amusing-- Ledger portrayed the Joker as a frightening psychopath. Ledger took a lot of inspiration in developing his character from Sid Vicious and the 1971 movie, A Clockwork Orange. Other noteworthy actors in The Dark Knight include the Oscar winner Michael Caine, who plays Alfred Pennyworth. Pennyworth is Bruce Wayne’s (Batman’s) butler. Morgan Freeman, another Oscar winner, has the role of Lucius Fox. Fox runs Wayne Enterprises for Bruce Wayne. Several other well-known Hollywood actors and actresses are in this film as well. Harvey Dent—the District Attorney who helps Batman fight Gotham’s crime spree—is played by Aaron Eckhart. Attorney Rachel Dawes, who works with Harvey Dent, is played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Talented cast notwithstanding, The Dark Knight has had its share of problems and concerns. Perhaps the most well-known is the death of one of the main actors of the film. Heath Ledger’s sudden death on January 22, 2008 could have caused some major difficulties for Warner Bros. Pictures. Luckily, though, Ledger had already finished filming his scenes and post-production work. So, although the film was not going to be completed and ready for release for another seven months, Ledger’s death did not cause any real trouble for the actual movie. This is a good thing, because the character of the Joker is of central importance to The Dark Knight—and, by nearly all accounts, Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker is marvelous. The basic premise of this movie is that Batman teams up with District Attorney Dent to try to get rid of the crime in the city. But, the Joker—and his multitude of rogues--becomes more dangerous than anything else they have faced.Whether fans are looking forward to this film because it is the newest Batman movie or because of the cast or even because of the eerily gruesome Joker matters not—at least not to Warner Bros. Pictures. They seem to have a blockbuster on their hands—the biggest blockbuster of the summer of 2008.
