Machine tool dealers Macrotec’s new Findamachine site has connected over 10,000 potential buyers with grateful dealers since launching a new service in May. The newly updated site at www.findamachine.com offers users the opportunity to search for new or used lathes currently listed on over 1000 stock lists on the internet. The simple search system allows users to search on any field from a database of over 2500 new and used lathes and click directly through to the seller.
“We opened up the service free to anyone without requiring registration and suddenly the flood gates opened “ said Richard Moss, Chief Developer of Findamachine.com. “It’s the only site that is updated daily automatically, so users know it’s up to date.”
Macrotec Machine Tools Ltd have been developing their Findamachine site for some years now and have added 4500 lathe specifications to an extensive machine tool directory to provide a valuable and user friendly tool for engineers all over the world. The list of lathes for sale is updated daily and includes machine tool dealers and auctioneers sites.
“We’ve cut out the middleman and allow potential buyers to click straight through to seller’s websites. We take no part in the sales process and charge no commission for sales. We are financing the site from advertising revenues,” says Stuart Moss Managing director of Findamachine. “From the feedback we are getting it’s definitely the way forward for the market. Machine tool buyers love Findamachine because it saves them so much time trawling the dealers’ sites on the internet. It was the time it took us searching the web for a lathe with a specific dimension for one of our customers that gave us the idea for the Findamachine project 3 years ago. Because we are engineers ourselves we’ve worked hard to make the search as simple and comprehensive as possible and we are continually building our database of specifications and machine tool dealers.”

A machine shop is a workshop where huge and influential machine tools and equipments are used to cut, shape, drill, and finish metals, plastics, glass, wood and other similar materials. Machining means to create a useful component (such as an engine block) from raw materials like aluminum, iron, glass etc. The procedures carried out in a machine shop are several elementary processes essential for the functioning of a developed society.
Whereas, there are numerous specialized machine shop processes that are specific to particular industries, there are a few fundamental machine shop processes that are general and used commonly in most of the machine shops. Some principal machine shop processes are:
Turning
Turning is performed on a machine names as lathe which has a revolving spindle to hold the raw material. When the raw material rotates, different tools are employed to cut, shape and drill the material; for instance, to convert a simple cylinder of plastic into a tapered and shaped table leg.
Grinding
Grinding is one of the last but very important processes in machining of materials. Grinding recovers the exterior of the material being machined; smoothes the rough edges, and ensures the uniformity of surface.
Drilling
Drilling with a drill press in machine shop is a comparable process to the drilling done during do-it-yourself projects at home. While drilling a hole at home we move the drill to the material where we need a hole but drilling in a machine shop using a drill press is slightly different as the material to be drilled is placed in a vise and secured underneath a drill head that moves up and down.
Milling
Milling of solid materials requires a horizontal or a vertical milling machine, depending on the orientation of the cutting tool. In milling machine, the work material moves in opposition to a rotating cutter.
The fundamental machining procedures carried out in a machine shop may seem normal and easy, but they have a huge influence on the improvement of modern society.
