Contrary to what most of you may think this is not one of those Paris Hilton news. Fortunately for us we will only be discussing one of Ms. Hilton’s headline-hitting Bentleys.
The Dh1.2 million Bentley GTC---a product of Europe’s largest automaker and producer of VW C.V. boot --- and was previously owned by hotel heiress Paris Hilton is now owned by a romantic Dubai-based businessman. The limited edition super car is one of the 50 ever produced by Bentley.
Unfortunately the star of the Simple Life did not like the white interior of the supercar and has refused to take the car. A businessman from Denmark by the name of Glenn Portier has heard of the news and decided to buy the Limited Edition Bentley as a Valentine’s gift for his wife, Puspa. Glenn said, "My wife loves beautiful things and I knew she would appreciate this."
There has been previous news that the hotel heiress has a Bentley collection. She lost one in a poker game and another one in a car accident wherein she was charged with a DUI or Driving under the influence offense.
The Bentley that was refused by Ms. Hilton is getting plenty of attention as it cruises the streets of Dubai. It also became a member of the Portier family cars at Arab run with Glenn having an Aston Martin Vantage, his daughter Diana an AMG SLK 55 Mercedes and his wife Puspa with her new Limited Bentley GTC.
Puspa excitedly said, "I always get stopped while driving my car around Jumeirah. The local kids want to know about the car. It is such a fluid car, I love it."
There have been various reactions to the refusal of Ms. Hilton of the Bentley but most of them are glad that the supercar is now on the hand of a much responsible owner/driver. And why wouldn’t they be glad, the hotel heiress has a reputation for being a notorious driver on the road. Here is the list of Ms. Hilton’s series of unfortunate events behind the wheel:
• In November 2005, Stavros Niarchos, Ms. Hilton’s boyfriend crashed her Bentley GTC into a truck.
• April 2006—the hotel heiress lost her favorite $200,000 (Dh734,600) Bentley GTC in a poker game, at a casino in Las Vegas.
• September 2006--- Ms. Hilton was arrested for driving under the influence, even though she claimed that the high alcohol content in her blood was caused by not eating during a long day of making a music video.
• January 2007--- Ms. Hilton pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving which has a lesser charge than driving under the influence. Placed on 36 months’ probation and ordered to pay fines.
• February 2007---Ms. Hilton was pulled over and cited for driving on a suspended license. The hotel heiress was spotted driving her Bentley convertible along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles without her headlights on. Police impounded the car. Paris had to call a friend to drop her home.
The New car of Paris
The hotel heiress was recently spotted driving a brand new Spyker C8 Spyder which was given to her as a gift from the Bullrun 2007. The DUI princess will drive the supercar in an RSVP only, week long, cross-country road race that would start from Montreal to Key West. The public is being warned.
The Bullrun 2007 is very much fitted to the hotel heiress in the sense that it only involves party, drive, and enjoy. The Bullrun 2007 is an epic eight-day rolling party which is to be attended by of course the like of Ms. Hilton.
What happens when you turn down a Bentley GTC Limited Edition? You get cursed and go to jail like the branded notorious hotel heiress and Simple Life diva, Paris Hilton. Just kidding, Bentley GTC--- which is by the way the masterpiece of Bentley Motors Limited, the subsidiary of Volkswagen, producer of high quality VW head gaskets --- has nothing to do with it.
As a matter of fact some people think that it’s just right that Ms. Hilton refused the Limited Edition Bentley since it’s now owned by a more “responsible” owner - Puspa Portier, the wife of a romantic Dubai businessman, Glenn Portier.
The hotel heiress and branded DUI princess was ordered to spend 45 days in jail. The order came after a Los Angeles judge ruled Ms. Hilton for violating her probation relating to alcohol-related reckless driving.
According to Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer, he believes that the 26-year-old Simple Life diva has intentionally disobeyed the law by driving while her license was suspended. Judge Sauer has ordered Ms. Hilton to report to jail on June 5. Judge Sauer further stated, "I think she has wanted to disregard everything that was said and continued to drive no matter what. The probation is revoked. Forty-five days in jail."
Judge Sauer has come up with his decision after a two-hour hearing wherein Ms. Hilton has pleaded that she was unaware that her driving privileges had been suspended when she was pulled over for driving without headlights last February 27.
The hotel heiress even put the blame on her publicist by saying that Elliot Mintz has told her that she was permitted to drive for work-related reasons. Ms Hilton told the judge, "I did not want to break the law. I did what I was told. I would never drive just because I want to. I follow the law and I respect the law. From now on I want to pay complete attention to everything. I just want to say I'm sorry."
The judge however was not convinced by Ms. Hilton’s alibi and said that he believes that the hotel heiress is very much aware of her driving restrictions and added that Paris has chosen to completely ignore the notice given to her by a police officer that she had signed during an earlier traffic stop last January which notifies her regarding her suspended license.
The whole court drama has brought Hilton’s mother Ms. Kathy to yell at the prosecutor saying “you’re pathetic”.
Attorney Howard Weitzman, lawyer of Ms. Hilton said that the decision was unfair since it singled out Paris for being a celebrity. He also said, "To sentence Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail is inappropriate and borders on ludicrous. It is clear that she has been selectively targeted for prosecution for who she is. I think she was honest in her testimony. We do intend to appeal to the judge and to a higher court to modify the sentence."
Ms. Hilton was placed on three years probation earlier this year for pleading no contest which is equivalent by the way to a guilty plea. This is in relation to the alcohol-related reckless driving after a September 2006 arrest in Hollywood. As though she has not learned from previous mistakes, in late February she did it again. She was pulled over on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood for driving without headlights. She was driving a $190,000 blue Bentley that was impounded by the police. It was also during that incident when she was discovered to be driving on a suspended license.
Anticipation is rising as the 2007 New York International Automobile Show goes back to the Jacob Javits Convention Center this April 6th. Many automobile enthusiasts are looking forward to feasting their eyes and satisfying their hunger for the freshest line-up that their favorite brands have to offer.
This auto show will feature more of the cars and trucks of the 2007 and 2008 production line and many of the concept vehicles that are projected to bring about change in the automobile dynamics. Many different cars will be put on the spotlight and all its intricate design details will be scrutinized. The inner working of the vehicles will also be one of the many attractions.
The show promises that critics and fanatics will have a difficult time comparing and contrasting the different creations presented to them. Each curve and swerve of the contour of each car has been perfected; every Mercedes headlights show glare and brightness.
The opening day ceremonies will be held on the 7th of April at 9:30 to 11 in the morning. The show will run 11am to 10:30 pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 10 am to 7 pm on Sundays. This show is open to anyone who wants to get to know more about cars, cars collectors or just anyone who wants to see flashy and shiny steel that revolves on a platform.
Tickets can be availed of on line and can be printed from your homes and transferred in favor of other persons, or you can purchase them directly at the door or at the Credit Card Kiosk at the Javits Center.
There are many different events to be excited about, like the National Automotive Technology Competition Breakfast, Automotive Career Fair, the famous New York Bus Tour, TVB Breakout Sessions and Trade Show Exhibits, Symposium on World Traffic Safety, Competition for Safety Designs, a Hispanic Day Concert, and of course the closing of the event on the last day which is the 15th of April.
For enthusiasts from far places, many hotels are open near the venue site. Among these are the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, the Crown Plaza Times Square, the Hilton New York, Marriott Marquis, W Times Square Hotel and many others.
Next year’s New York International Auto Show will be held on March 21-30, 2008.
